Surprise, Edward & Happy Birthday!!!

Just a quick little entry tonight because it's so late. But I did want to share a couple of pictures we took at Edward's surprise birthday party earlier this evening.

Part of the secret to a successful surprise party is not telling kids under the age of 20. That meant, of course, the Tim and Jake were as surprised as Ed was.

The other part of a successful surprise is to have so much diversion that the center of attention doesn't even think he is. Tiffany managed to snag friends from his work office unit, the scouting program, church, old friends, and of course relatives.
Camdan did a pretty good job of diversion on his own. Tiffany had it planned down to the minute and then Camdan's daycare said she had to go pick him up. Everyone's a little skittery because of all the Swine Flu popping up around the world.

Everyone invited brought something to the party so we had a wide variety of things to eat and it was all delicious. One thing you can say about this group of friends is that they're a diverse group.
The weather was almost perfect. We could have done with no breeze instead of one just powerful enough to blow all the tablecloths over, upsetting the things sitting on the table.

It was unclear to me whether gifts were expected and apparently it was unclear to the others. As a result the presents he got were a mixed bag. Ed showed appreciationg for all.
One thing we could do at the park but probably wouldn't have dared inside, was to place 40 candles on the cake and actually light all of them. The heat melted and almost evaporated the top layer of frosting.
And blowing the cake out was a difficult task. Ed left about 5 to 7 candles so I guess his wishes can't come true on that basis.

Chubby Camdan found the chocolate cake, melted frosting or not, was definitely to his liking. This take would have been fun just to put Camdan on a smooth floor (so he doesn't skin his knees) and put a large piece of chocolate cake in front of him.

All in all, we had a lot of fun and gave Edward a good send off into his next decade.

  2. I'm surprised you even got all 40, I mean that is huge number, candles lit at once without having the first ones burn down to the cake. Wow, the big four zero, what must if feel like.
