Everyday observation quiz

A friend passed this on to me through e-mail and since I rarely pass anything along that way (seems too much like spam to me) I decided instead to post it on this blog.

The average person only gets 7 correct. (This statistic is totally made up but it makes most people happy to know they're above average.)

This is based on U.S. info, so use all lobes of your brain. This can be more difficult than it looks - it just shows how little most of us really see!

There are 25 questions about things we see every day or have known about all our lives. How many can you get right? These little simple questions are harder than you think-- it just shows you how little we pay attention to the commonplace things of life.

Put your thinking caps on. No cheating! No looking around! No getting out of your chair! No using anything on or in your desk or computer!

Can you beat 12?? (The average is 7) Write down your answers as you go.
Check answers (in the first comment), AFTER completing all the questions.

REMEMBER - NO CHEATING!!! BE HONEST!!! That means no looking at your phone or anything on your desk....

Then, before you pass this on to your friends, change the number on the subject line to show how many you got correct. Forward to your friends and also back to the one who sent it to you.

LET'S JUST SEE HOW OBSERVANT YOU REALLY ARE.
Here we go!

  2. I got 19, and I have a few complaints.

    10) Corriolis force is less significant in determining the direction water goes down a drain than whether or not you've sneezed. Go ahead, fill your sink up and start is rotating clockwise then drain it, it will drain clockwise.

    14) My ceiling fan can go either direction. It might be standardized relative to direction the wind blows, but that is just a convention. You could build one screwy.

    17) My car has 4

So anyway, give me those and I got 22.

(Oh, and I'm taking this WAY too seriously.)

  3. Oh that was me, Lee

  4. I didn't really keep track of how many I got right, but I did have the same thought that Lee had about the fan except that mine was more like "am I trying to blow air on me or just trying to circulate the air in the room?"

  5. As one who worked at a tire store and has changed a lot of tires from different makes, in regards to #17, 4 is just as common as 5. It really depends on the size of the car.

Maybe all the cars made in the decade this quiz was made up were huge so they had 5 - whereas the 'not normal' economical (e.g. foreign) cars had 4.

Regarding #14, they probably weren't referring to ceiling fans, but fans you plug into the wall - which generally only rotate one direction but have multiple speeds. Again, maybe a sign of how old this quiz is.
