You may notice from this picture that our little red Honda Civic fits nicely in the new carport with plenty of room to open and close the gates. But when we tried it with the Dodge van, it was a no go. We could store the van in the carport or close the gates but not both.
Well, Handyman Arnold got busy this morning with a couple of hinges (4 to be exact) from Home Depot and pretty soon...
the gates open out instead of in. Now Carolyn has her choice of which vehicle gets the garage and which one gets the new carport. I love it when a project goes right.
In the process of installing these new hinges, I was not only able to use spring loaded hinges (so you have to hook them open or they'll close on their own) but I also raised the gates so they don't rub on the driveway making it more difficult to open or close them.
