Blue screen of death

What you don't want to see on your computer the day you really have to get some work out. It's a sort of hard error that prevents you from continuing work without restarting. But it's a sort of soft error in that it has a very low frequency. Until day before yesterday we saw this message about once every 4 to 5 weeks. Then the computer flaked out twice for Carolyn and twice for me. The solution that Microsoft gives is crazy. The expect you to "check out" the "drivers" in your computer (we have 280) to see that you have the latest ones. You're also advised to give higher priority to hardware and software you've installed recently. Neither was useful to us as it didn't apply.

Before giving up, I Googled drivers replacement. One of the first hits was software which sounded like it was built for this exact situation. I downloaded it, paid for it online, then ran it. Of the 280 drivers, the program indicated that 14 were bad or outdated. I clicked on FIX and all but 3 of the 14 were taken care of. Those three have to do with internal chips in the computer so it's unlikely they're the problem.

Since running the program we have not seen the blue screen of death but it just may have gone dormant again and we'll not see it for another month or two.
